Equity and share percentage offers of enticement
In an effort to ramp up the stakes in the recruitment of Senior Managers, we are hearing of a number of companies going further than the usual remuneration packages of salary plus benefits. You know the deal: pension, healthcare, travel, life assurance.
Some forward thinking small to medium sized enterprises, usually consultants, are offering profit sharing and even a percentage of the business in an effort to lure the kind of quality middle and senior management staff that fit their businesses.
These high flying organisations are using headhunters like ourselves to target individuals who they regard as ‘the finished article’ to take their businesses to the next level. They are taking advantage of the fact that certain fast tracked, well trained and knowledgeable staff have reached a plateau in their current positions. These attractive businesses have a solid base with medium and long term future growth mapped out in robust business plans.
Generally led by individuals who have already excelled in their field, supported by traditional investment, venture capitalists or business angels, they make an attractive prospect for anyone willing to break from the more conservative career passage with construction blue chip companies.
The niches that we see growing over the next few years that these specialists are expecting to exploit are: Transport for London’s portfolio (Tube Lines is set to join Metronet by being absorbed back into the business), Network Rail’s portfolio, Risk and Opportunity management, Specialist tendering services and Renewable energy projects - one recently called for a laser specialist! This list is not exhaustive.

Construction companies now thinking like city recruiters
So changing career doesn’t have to be tied to the hum drum process of scouring the classifieds, posting your cv on a mainstream recruiters website or firing off letters to companies you found in the New Civil Engineer or Construction News. Try something different in your search, you may be surprised with what the market has to offer.
